  1. Usually when your phone is disconnected no wires are actually unplugged. Somebody just changes a thing in your account on the PC and voilà. Your phone no longer works.

  2. No, BT Openreach own the line and will send out an engineer to reconnect the line, the line could be disconnected up the pole, underground, in a cabinet, in the exchange or all of the above. This takes a trained engineer to do this. If you don't want to pay BT to do this try another service provider, it makes no difference who you go to as it will be the same line and the same engineers who will do this for you.

  3. if you have a line coming till your house and there is no engineer visit needed then you don't have to pay. They did the same to me saying that the previous tenant didn't have a line for 10 years so the line was dead and they had to come out and fix it.... I said ok, I would pay it only if the engineering work needed. Engineer did come out and check it only to see that we were connected and he didn't have to do any work so no fee... It is a risk though...you might end up paying the fee....

  4. You can't re-connect like that, but there may be an alternative to paying BT the ridiculous amount to connect the line.  This is a method that my partner and I used that meant BT did the job, but we never paid a penny.  This is how it worked.  BT were wanting to charge us the same way as they want to charge you.  However when they realised that my partner had been a BT customer within the previous year, they waived the fee, on condition that the account was kept in just his name.  Of course, we were happy to do this to save such a large sum of money.  So, if you have had a landline account with BT in the last 12 months, either in joint names, or just in your name, tell them about it, to get the installation fee waived.  Hope this helps.

  5. What exactly do you mean by reconnect??

Have you disconnected by accident? Cut the wires? Moved the Socket?

If you have applied for a line then answer is No. This is because the CST engineer will come out to test the line. This is the connection/admin/equipment fee. You could connect yourself but the Charge will still be applicable.

If you have accidently knocked the phone socket off the skirt/wall or accidently cut the wires, then Answer is Yes, but you have to advise if this refers to the master socket or slave socket. You can Google search for this (Wiring BT socket)

  6. Are you staying at the same address or moving house? If you unfortunatley were disconnected then you have to pay a reconection fee, basically this is to discourge people from not paying their bills on time.

  7. possibly not as if it was that easy everyone would be doing it

I would think that BT need to do something at the exchange anyway to activate your line, its not just a case of line reconnection

  8. no.it has to be reconnected at the exchange, unless you can hack into the bt communication system.if you can let me know how you do it.

  9. It is done at the exchange not at the house sorry nice try though!
