Can I record a show when my DVR is off?

Question

I have dvr for directv and there is a show i wanna watch at 4 am , will it record when it is off, or should i leave the receiver on, but the tv off???

I have a cable dvr and it can be off and still record.  My sister has directtv and I am pretty sure she turns it off and it still records.

Why dont you just test it?

Record something and then turn off the dvr and see if it works.

i think you have to leave the reciever on

When you turn the tv off when you're gone, the dvr stays on.  The only way to turn off the dvr is to unplug it.  So probably the dvr is on and powered up all of the time.  You can hear the cooling fan all of the time so you know that it is on.

the dvr will turn itself on record then turn itself off.
