I have a cord that lets me watch recorded stuff off of it, but I would like to record off of the TV screen without those lines and bad quality.

  1. You can't - there's no output from the TV

  2. You cannot record from tv screen with camera. Period.

The tv screen uses different repetitive frequency + interlaced picture (two half pictures alternating during show) so if you try any camera to record tv screen, you will always have that line artifact. That is simple physics. Now I do not know, how it works with HD TV, what I said is true for regular tv..

You can only record on VCR via video out from Tv (if it has any) - as well as on camera IF your cam has AV in jack (most camcorders do NOT have such port.  And most Tvs do not have video out, only video in. Then you need to record on VCR via tha VCR's own tv tuner (or on computer via the tv tuner card.)

    Have fun, Johnny
