It breaks my heart to throw the cartons in the garbage, but I don't know if they can be recycled with the other paperboard. :(

  1. Well we can but not the tops.

  2. Yes in NYC

  3. I do, and I see through the pink sacks quite a few other people do as well. Theoretically, they are mostly paper and the other materials should be  easily removed in the recycling process.

  4. Where I live, milk cartons and juice cartons fall into the non-recycling category because of the wax lining.

However, fun things can be done with cartons because they are usually pretty heavy duty stock.

If you're crafty, try using them as a mold to make soap or candles. Green thumb? Cut them down and use them as planters inside a non-water-proof container or as a starter for your tomatoes.

You could also save them up (after you rinse them out, of course) and donate them to your local schools for craft projects.

Remember, recycling isn't your only option... re-purpose what you can, too.

  5. no, because of the plastic liner.

    they burn good though.

  6. Yes, you can.

  7. If you mean the ones that are cardboard on the outside then I'm afaid you can't as the inside is wax lined therefore cannot be recycled.

  8. YES , I ALWAYS RECYCLE MY MILK AND JUICE CARTON.AND THEY PICKED UP .

  9. WM is the company that picks up my trash in Oakland, and I can put them in my green waste bin (yard, food-soiled paper and cardboard, and kitchen food waste) --remove any plastic from them. I  stuff my milk cartons full of kitchen food waste and food-soiled paper and then put them in the green bin. I also do my own composting, but I don't put some of the kitchen waste in my own composting.

  10. Local ordinances dictate that, but milk cartons are recyclable.

We recycle ours with the glass and metal cans.

  11. I am going to ask further about the wax liner..the person at our local (S.K. dump) told me that it is the plastic spout that prevents them from being recycled with the cardboard, so I have been cutting out the plastic spout then putting the rest in cardboard. However, that was not an "official" answer, so I will look into that and report back here within a week..

  12. this depends on where you live

  13. It really depends on where you live.  Some cities accept any kind of paper meaning yes.  Contact your local recycling agency they'll be glad to let you know.
