MY LOCAL VON'S SUPERMARKET HAS A BIN FOR RECYCLING PLASTIC SHOPPING BAGS. CAN I PUT USED ZIPLOCK BAGS IN THERE AS WELL? I HATE THROWING THEM AWAY - SEEMS LIKE A WASTE.

  1. as long as they are clean.

    you can also do what ido if you garden, or have indoor plants.  when I am gone for more than 3 days, I put little pin prick holes around the middle of them, put them into the middle of the planter, fill them with water, close them tight, and put the soil back on top.  they slowly water my plants while I am gone;

    or if I have the plants on a tray, I put the bag on the bottom in the tray and let the water slowly drip out.

    I do the same in the garden,  I put the bags around the base of the plant; it keeps the soil warm (from the sun on the plastic, and slowly waters at the base of the plant, where the plant gets the most from the water (outside and in I put a drop or two of miracle grow liquid plant food in the bags)

  2. No, it's an entirely different type of plastic and should be kept separate.

  3. No, but I am speaking about what I know in Texas.  The bin for recycling plastic shopping bags is just for that - plastic shopping bags.  Anything else will not work.

    I hate throwing them away too; so I TRY to either re-use them when I can, or not use them at all.

  4. Do you know what you can also do?  Throw them in your washing machine inside out , clean them and reuse them.  I laughed, too but it really works.. gentle cycle. mild det.  Wait until you have enough to wash.

  5. Be sure and check where the plastic bags go. Currently, California has no plastic bag recycling. The bags have to be shipped to another state for recycling. This means trucks, gas, exhaust etc. Joe Garbarino, Marin County Recycling owner, says he has nowhere to take the bags. It may be that the stores say 'recycling' but they actually throw them in the dumpster.

  6. I would say yes as long as they are not contaminated with food or whatever.

  7. Hello Berry

    Reuse the Ziplock Bags for shopping. It is uneasy for Looking then sent it for Recycle Bin.
