I have a bunch of notebook-like manuals from an outdated training program. I have removed all the metal wire bindings and recycled the paper. I'd hate the throw all the wire bindings in the trash. Can they be recycled?

  1. The answer is yes, usually the wire is recyclable  if you peel of the plastic. Mostly it depends on the facility where you plan to do it. Check with places who recycle metals, they will likley want to know the type of wire. Good luck to you

  2. I re-cycled a coat-hanger ,that was plastic-coated, to take the place of the top handle plastic clip-over part of my coffee maker carafe. It was a hanger of very small guage and thus very moldable. I chose it for it's strength and rust-proof properties and I was not let down -3months and counting.

  3. i scrap metal and do free metal pick-up no job to small no job to big you can contact me at smrtnmrtn@yahoo.com

  4. it depends on the plastic used as most plastics produce poisonous gases when melted down, this can happen sometimes if the voltage is too high.

  5. Sure - The plastic burns off when the metal is melted down.

  6. I DOUBT IT, STEAL IS CHEAP, NOT MUCH FOR IT.

  7. The question is about recycling metal with a toxic coating of plastic.

In a very general way it is a danger to heat most plastics to the temperature at which metals melt, and it is done all the time.

It is also harmful to use plastics that are not microwave safe in any application involving heat that will vaporize the plastic or cause it to be absorbed into food. Even microwave-safe may not be.

The problem with heating a lot of plastics is that they put estrogen or estrogen like materials into the air, into the water, and into us. Estrogens are a strong oncogenes agent, meaning that they will tell the body to provide blood supply for tumors, making them grow quickly.

However, a lot of recycling places will still melt plastic coated steel wire and burn off the plastic.
