I just bought 3 Nigerian Dwarf doe sisters, 8 weeks old., pure blood Nigerian Dwarf. They are unregistered and their dam and sire are unregistered. Is their any association that I can register them with that does not require the dam and sire to be registered goats? AGS or ADGA? I know NDGA won't let me.

  1. No, you can't.  ADGA has a NOA (native on appearance) registration for certain breeds, but not for Nigerian Dwarfs.  ADGA has only accepted Nigerian Dwarf registrations for a few years now.  The only way to get ADGA registration for Nigerian Dwarf goats is if the parents are ADGA registered, or if the goat is AGS registered they will also accept registration.

AGS will only accept registrations from AGS registered sire & dam.

NDGA will accept registrations from NDGA, AGS, or ADGA registered sire & dam.

To summarize, for Nigerian Dwarf goats, both the sire & dam must be registered in order for any of the three reputable registries to register them.

However, don't feel too bad about not being able to register them.  I raise both registered & unregistered ND's, and although the unregistered kids sell for less, I still get a good price for them & they sell faster because many people don't care about the registration if they just want pets and/or milkers.  My unregistered goats are as special to me as my registered goats....a piece of paper doesn't make them any more special.
