Can I remain unwired and use a wireless router?

I would like to use my parents broadband connection by using a wireless router with my laptop. Can they still be connected with the modem with their desktop computer and not use the wireless feature? I just want to use the internet without being on their desktop computer, and I just wanted to use my laptop from my room. If this is possible, can we use it at the same time?

yeah thats what a router does is split up the bandwidth so the modem goes to the router they connect to the router with a cable and you through wireless
