Question:

Can I renew my New Jersey driver's license even though it's been expired for 6 months?

I moved from New Jersey to Manhattan last year and I no longer needed to drive. I very stupidly let my license expire without getting a New York replacement. Now it looks like I may have to move back to New Jersey for a few months.

I realized that I should have a license and mine now expired 6 months ago.

Also, are there any legal penalties for failing to inform the DMV?

Do I need to retake the test or can I just renew my old license?

I've searched the internet and the DMV website and couldn't find an answer.

  1. Call the DMV and ask them (dont tell them your name and use a payphone if it makes you more comfortable)

    good luck!

  2. I don't believe that it being expired is a problem and there shouldn't be any legal penalties it's preferance if you tell them or not I wouldn't know I'm just assuming
