Can I rent an apartment in Brisbane from US?

I am moving to Brisbane in about a month (can't wait!!!) and wanted to have an apartment available upon arrival. Is it possible to enter into a contract to rent an apartment while still in US, keeping in mind that it's short-term and I don't really care what it is?

  1. You will find it very expensive to rent a fully furnished apartment in Brisbane. Generally any city apartment/hotel style accommodation offers extended stay rates.

Rent in Brisbane is just expensive.

6months is generally the shortest lease length. I would be surprised if you can rent prior to arriving due to the requirements for rentals.

    A good website is www.seqrents.com.au

You could email a couple of resident managers and suss it out.

I recommend you consider room mates, plus its a great way for social networking.

  2. I might have a room available. I live with my g/f and another housemate. It'll be better rent than anywhere else you'll find and it's only 8 mins into the city by train. Email if you want to hear more.

  3. Brisbane is c**p,

It's way too hot and theres hardly any water.

  4. Hey, I am doing the same thing!  I arrive in Brisbane from Florida on June 6th!

I have been apartment searching for a while now just to get an idea of prices etc, and the answer above for rent is way off!

The closer to the city center you are of course the more expensive, but I am looking into furnished apartments with 1-3 roommates and have found plenty for $200 a week or less.

How old are you?   If I don't find anything appealing before I leave, I am just going to stay at a hostel for a week or so until I find something.

  5. To enter into a contract to rent an apartment through an agent or resident manager of an apartment block, you have to provide details of employment (and therefore income), proof of identity (original birth certificate or passport, as well as other things such as drivers licence, credit card, etc). The minimum contract length of the lease is usually 6 months. I doubt that you can do this while still in the US.

Alternatively, there are many fully furnished apartments available for short term lease and require no contract. You provide your credit card details and pay for the use of your apartment in advance from week to week. Of course the cost is much higher. For example, I rent an unfurnished apartment under a 6-month lease for $400 a week. The cost to rent a similar funished apartment in the same building is about $180 per night.

    Hope this helps.

Edit: My answer for rent is not way off. It's a fact for an apartment in my building which is in the CBD. Of course prices vary all over depending on how close you are to the city.
