Will they also work with the existing 6ohm subwoofer? Many thanks.

  1. Absolutely. The 2 ohm difference is nothing and 8 ohms should give you a better match with the amp because 8 ohms is the standard. As for the sub-woofer, It isn't self-powered? In other words, an amplifier isn't built in? Go with the 8 ohms. Contrary to the previous response your power transfer to the speakers won't change unless you go below 6 ohms. If nothing else, your efficiency will very slightly improve with the 8 ohms not decrease. A solid-state amp can handle almost any output load unless the impedance gets too low...like 1 ohm or less which means a speaker shorts out. If that happens, the amp will shut down.

  2. Yes, but don't expect as much "oomph" out of them.

Edit: The answerer below should familiarise themselves with Ohm's Law.

If the resistive load increases by 33% (6 ohm up to 8 ohm) then the power output will decrease accordingly. The amplifier will have been designed to deliver to a 6 ohm load. Increasing the load won't make the amplifier more powerful by magic. Think about it.
