Can I replace a tivo hard drive with the same sized drive from a similar unit?

For example, I have two hughes hdvr2 and one of the hard drives on hughes #1 is dead. Can I put the hard drive from working hughes #2 into the #1 case and have #1 work? Does this corrupt the hard drive and prevent me from moving it back to hughes #2 when I'm done?

  1. No, it needs to be the same make and model because some memory run faster/slower so it damage the unit.
