Question:

Can I replace just the shaft on my 10 year old McDermott, my buddies dog used it as a chew toy?

I have a McDermott I bought about 10 years ago for around $250. Is it worth it to try and replace the shaft that a dog destroyed or just get a whole new cue. I used to about a C+ level player in local tourneys but haven't played seriously for a couple of years and want to get my chops back before I start dropping to much cash. Any suggestions for a replacement please. Id like stay at about $100 dollars if possible

  1. Well depending on how the dog got ahold of the cue, if it was my buddy, he'd be buying me a know shaft.  I keep my cue in a instroke case in my closet when not using it so I guess I'm a little curious on how the dog got to it.  A new shaft however is going to be something like $100, just contact a cue maker or maybe McDermott has some for less.  Keep rackn em up!

  2. Yes! Contact Rick Howard at www.macecues.com and he can make a replacement shaft for your McDermott cue to fit your specs.

  3. Call Seyberts. They should be able to get you what you need. A "regular" McDermott shaft will run you about $80. Any authorized dealer in your town should be able to order you a replacement shaft as well, but they may charge a little more.

  4. Here's one place for extra shafts.  Ebay's got a couple too.  Just make sure it's the right joint.  Most McDermotts are 3/8x10.  But any billiards store will have a shaft that matches your joint.

  5. You can also go out and get a predator shaft for it. they make them in that threading, and they make a couple of different kinds.  Call around to the local pool halls, see if anyone is carrying them, the 314 and the Z shaft.  I have a friend who bought one and loves it, I think he bought the 314 for his Viking, his got broken when someone took a swing at him.

  6. pretty sure u can ...check out the mueller catalog

  7. Yes, contact McDermott directly and tell them about your problem. They will be able to replace the shaft, although you may need to send them the cue for proper fit. The whole process, including shipping should not exceed $100. They made me 4 shafts that were interchangeable between my 3 custom McDermott cues, so I know they can easily do it.

  8. you have gotten some great suggestions already i was just going to say why dont u use this as an opportunity to upgrade the shaft,  go with one that will be better cost lil more but over all cheaper then new cue

  9. For that amount of money you can get yourself a good Cuetec cue.  They are great and the shaft dosen't bend.

  10. You can contact McDermott directly and ask them the price for replacing the shaft or you can call a local pool hall and they should be able to get it for you. The shaft will cost far less than $100.00.

  11. LOL...dogs will chew anything!  Go to a store that sells cues and billiard supplies and see if they have a shaft that will work with your cue.  I'm pretty sure you should have no problem finding a replacement at a reasonable price.
