Question:

Can I report a dentist for this behavior?

I went to a new dentist today after my HMO transferred me there. I just needed a cleaning.

My appointment was at 4 pm and I waited in the waiting room until 5:45 pm at which time I walked up to the front desk and asked how much longer it would be. I was informed that the hygienist had left for the day at 4:30 pm and the dentist an emergency patient so they would have to reschedule me to come back tomorrow. When I asked how long they knew about this problem, they told me since 4:30 but kept placing blame on each other and never gave me a reason why I was made to wait and never told that I needed to reschedule.

I became understandably upset but never raised my voice. I just told them I felt they had wasted my time and I didn't appreciate it. I rescheduled for 5 pm tomorrow and didn't think about it twice.

A few hours later, I had a missed call from the office and a message. It was the dentist (whom I have NEVER met and who was not there during the incident) who informed me that he did not appreciate my behavior and that my "screaming" in his office lost him some patients and he is disappointed and shocked that someone who works where I work would behave in such a "disruptive" manner. He also said I should call him and apologize if I ever wanted to go back there. He was literally screaming in his message.

I am really upset as I did nothing wrong here. This dentist was VERY unprofessional, especially considering that he was not even there and went by the lies his staff told him.

I feel like this type of behavior is unacceptable and disgusting for a dentist and want to report him to the dental board. Is there a basis for me to do so?

  1. yeah, report him if you wish. Sometimes dentists have real mental problems. It's a fact that they have a very high suicide rate. I went to one who got mad when my body rejected an implant. My face was swollen so bad my eye was swoll shut. I guess he was mad because he had to get out on a Saturday, and go to the office. He threw his instuments down, and didn't have much to say to me. I just sat there at his mercy, hoping it would all be over soon.

  2. Thats ridiculous- definetly report them!!

  3. How awful!!!!  Obviously he does NOT know how to run a business....i would try reporting him to your insurance company first and refuse to back to him this should make him lose many more patients if the ins. company stops transferring people there!!! YUCK i would not even have recheduled for the next day if i was you and knowing me i would have been YELLING AND SCREAMING!!!

  4. If that was me i would report him. That's terrible for a dentist,

who WASN'T there? You would have to have cameras and he cant prove anything if you were to report him. all he can prove is that he wasn't there and the receptionist knew he wasn't there to care for your teeth and didn't tell you until you had to ask.

    I hope you do!!!

  5. Contact your insurance company and demand a new Dentist.
