Question:

Can I request that my high school take my SAT scores off my transcript?

Here's the deal. I took the SAT's and did horrible.

I didn't send the scores to my high school yet it some how ended up on my transcript.

I want it removed because I don't want this to lower my chances of getting accepted into college.

Can I take legal action if the school denies?

How do I get it removed from my transcript?

Real answers please.

  1. You most likely will not be accepted to any college or university if you have not taken the SAT. Almost ALL colleges require it and so do many scholarships. I do not know what colleges you are looking for, but for the majority of them, they have a SAT and/or ACT requirement. You must retest if you do not want to be denied college admission. They will then see that you put forth an effort to raise your scores. I do not see a way to remove your scores from your transcripts. Those are your permanent records. Hope this helps!

  2. My answer is threefold:

    1. If you did not formally submit score reports to colleges, then colleges will not see your SAT scores. Technically, colleges are only supposed to consider the score on the official score report (not high school transcripts), but the score on the high school transcript may bias the college admissions officers (especially if it was a low score).

    2. Your score probably ended up on your high school transcript because the College Board (the organization that administers the SAT) automatically sends your SAT score to your high school, even if you did ask for the scores to be sent. Since most high schools do not list standardized test scores on students' transcripts, your school's practice of listing your SAT score may disadvantage you during admission. You should ask your high school administration (or whoever manages transcripts) to remove your SAT score. If your scores are removed, colleges will have NO WAY whatsoever to figure out your SAT score.

As to legal action, I don't think it will go that far. Your school should gladly remove your score.

    3. Although many may say that the SAT is "required" for admission, this is just not the case. While almost all applicants for Ivy League college need SAT scores, all four-year colleges and universities accept ACT scores. In fact, many colleges hold ACT scores to be more important than SAT scores. There are even some that don't look at any standardized test scores (SAT or ACT).

Good luck with your college apps.

  3. Take your SAT again. Whether you did horrible or not - they're going to figure out what your score is.

Sounds like you're keeping an open mind!!!!  Too  bad life doesn't come with an eraser!
