We just bought this house & the roof is three years old. They used 1/4' plywood on 24' centers. You can see the roof sag between the rafters a bit. So can I strip the shingles & resheet over the existing plywood with 1/2' plywood?

  1. no   but did the previous owners reveal this to you in the disclosure form  if not you might have legal remedies available to you  as this is a big expensive job

  2. First I have to say who ever put 1/4 plywood on for roof sheathing needs to be bent over and kicked! Second, yes you can plywood over it just be very careful you don't break through the 1/4 and get hurt!

  3. There is no reason to strip the plywood off before resheeting other than being careful not to step through the old stuff. The amount of weight is negligible and may even strengthen the roof a little bit.
