I have a borrowed digital camera with the computer plug in only. Is it possible to get the photos out of the camera and save on my pc. Can I do this while not deleting the pics that were already on the camera so as not to delete photos not belonging to me. If this requires a download, where can I get it free. FYI...first time digital camera user with no other material brochures, training, etc.

  1. By plugging the camera (using the usb cable), the camera acts like a usb flash card. Go to My computer and look for the drive where the camera is.  Highlight the photos ( press crtl "a" together) then either drag to a file in your computer or copy ( press ctrl "c" ) and paste to a file in your computer (ctrl "v").  It shouldn't delete the photo in the camera as long as you don't do a ctrl "x".

  2. Yes ... you can do it the way all of us have been using a card reader ... either using the one on your computer or one you buy (for under $10).

  3. If your OS is 2000 on up, you can plug the camera in (assuming it's USB), open up Windows Explorer, and it should show up as a removable drive. I never use my camera's software for transferring pics. Choose which pics you want to transfer, and the rest won't be affected.
