I purchased a kia rio 5 that is suppose to get 35mpg or better highway millage. We have been getting 20mpg - 22mpg. I wouldn't have bought the car if it wasn't going to be energy effiecient.

  1. No. EPA mileage estimates are just that - estimates. They are determined by tests conducted in a controlled environment. Ever heard the term "your mileage may vary"? They don't guarantee you'll get the estimated mileage.

  2. Don't think you can. You were told things, and saw statements of what was so great about your car but bottom line, all cars will someday be in the junk yard! Car OEM's lie and get away with it. Next time you purchase a car, think of it as future junk.

  3. no

well if you can find that lawyer that won money from McDonalds for the person that spilled the coffee in their lap and sued.

    otherwise

have it inspected and try changing your fuel supplier.

  4. You can't return it for that reason. If it's a brand new car, there is something wrong that the dealer should be able to fix under warranty.

If it's used car, the dealer probably won't help but you should get it tuned up and checked over. An engine in need of a tune-up is the most likely cause of the problem.

Also check your tire pressure to make it's correct, based on the sticker on your driver's side door. And watch how you drive. A steady foot on the gas pedal will do wonders for mileage.

  5. epa milages are a joke. they go like 50 mph in a staight line with cruise control on and use that as the milage you wont get that milage in town or if you accelerate like a nomal person. but i supose there could be something wrong as that is rather drastic. as for a return i have no idea

  6. No, you can't return it but you can bring it back and complain about poor gas mileage.  The dealer will check it and if they confirm it, will repair it under warranty.  Most times poor mileage is caused by poor driving habits.

  7. No.  Most people drive different and gas mileage will range a lot according to how they drive. For example people think if you drive slow you will get better mileage when in fact you should accelerate quickly to speed and tap on gas to maintain.Nor should you drive 70MPH when it is is 55-60 that will get best mileage on open highway. Also newer cars computer take approx. 1 month to get used to your driving habits and then you will get better mileage too. Kia is although ones built by Hyundai in states are much better quality has not been honest from start.  They have the big 10 year warranty but it is included in price of car.  I worked at a Mazda/Kia store in 90's and a/c would take 10-15 minutes to get cool on Kias. You still might get 30 onhighway give it a month.
