Question:

Can I return an item at a store I didn't buy it from?

I ordered a dvd online and it is not going to get here in time for christmas. I want to go try to find it and buy it at an actual retail store, give that one as a gift , and then return the other one once it finally comes to the store I bought the 2nd one at. Will this work? Will the computer scan it and know I didn't buy it there? I would be willing to return it without the reciept if that would help, and would take store credit. I'm really not trying to scam anyone I'm just really frusterated my gifts aren't going to get here in time for christmas (even after I paid for 2-3 day shipping LAST WEEK, long story...) and am trying to think of any alternatives! Help please, will it work??

  1. Call customer service where you ordered the dvd and tell them you want to return it when it comes because it will be too late for Christmas. They will most likely tell you to REFUSE delivery and that they will refund your money. If you REFUSE delivery, you don't have to pay return postage.

  2. Usually you can, especially if you have a receipt. Just make sure you get rid of any obvious signs that it came from wherever you ordered it from. If it doesn't work with the receipt just go to another location and tell them you received it as a gift and you have it already and that you have no use for it (store credit)! Good luck!
