If I run all of my A/V components to a stereo with HDMI and Component inputs, Can I Run 1 HDMI Cable to my HDTV for all the devices?

  1. Yes. That would be the preferred way. That way you use the input selector on the A/V receiver to define what you listen/watch. The video goes to the TV and the sound to the audio system speakers (vs using the usually pretty poor quality TV speakers).

    Note a couple of caveats:

    1) The receiver has to be able to interlink a component input to an HDMI output .. which most, but not all, will do.

    2) You may need audio cables too ... depending on the device ... to connect to the receiver. For example, my Satellite PVR only passes video over HDMI so I have to run an optical cable to the A/V receiver for sound.

A final note, some A/V receivers don't pass through the audio to the "HDMI out", so you might not have been able to use the TV speakers unless you used a second (e.g. optical) cable to the TV.

    Cheers.
