Can I run a 230v welder on a 4500 generator it as the 240v plug?

I have the generator and I want to buy mig welder the 110v I could use easier because I have no 240v plugs in my apartment but my generator does I was told u cant run the welder on a generator from a guy a canadain tire

  1. Depends on what you are welding, if your trying to weld continuously on 1/2 inch steel plate it will not do it but if your tacking or small welds yes it will run it, also the welder will not do it if the generator doesn't have the power it will just stick the rod.


  2. Check the welder to see what the power draw is during operation,if it needs 3500 or more watts, you could do harm to your generator. The generator can supply peak power of 4500 watts,[NOT SAFE] I personally would not load my generator above 3000 watts. these machines need to be compatible. Otherwise, YES, it will work.

       Tell your friend everything electrical runs on a generator. Just not his generator!!!

  3. Even if it does work you will be pushing the generator to the max. Not a good idea.
