Can I run a 36 volt DC motor on 48 volt DC safely?

I have a 36 volt golfcart it has 6 each 6 volt batterys. I would like to install 6 each 8 volt batterys in it will mit work.

No no no. If you want more capacity install larger capacity batteries, NOT more of them. If it has 6 x 6 volts batteries, they must be in series. Try installing 3 x larger capacity 12 volts batteries in series.

You are likely to burn it up. If you have 8 volt batteries, why not install just 5 of them so you have 40v which shouldn't be as big a risk.
