Can I run audio thru my S-video cable? Please read below before answering!?

I have cables ran in the wall for composite/audio and s-video from my receiver to a TV above my bar. I now have a high-def LCD TV to put there and want to run a high-def signal. Can I use the 3 RCA (composite/stereo audio) for component video and somehow convert the s-video to run stereo audio? I know that s-video has 4 pins so I was thinking 2 for left and 2 for right. Is there somewhere I can get a converter/adapter for the s-video ends to dual RCA? Thanks in advance! Please only answer this if you have valid info. Do not respond telling me to rip the cables out of the wall and replace them!

  1. first of all u r going to need a high def provider and they will supply u with what u need.  but to answer the question NO s-video will run audio only if u are using the input s-video is in.  it can not be used as a external audio source sorry

  2. sure you can. you can use the composite wires as componet they are two conductor wires and yes they will provide you with your HD signal if you use them in the LCD's component input. your s-video is for video but you can use the wire inside for carring audio signals simply cut of the connection and use the wires for your audio. as long as you dont try to plug it in your LCD's S-Video input your ok. most of these cables can be used however you want inside the jacket is only wire so if you chop of the connectors you can use the wire how ever you want....h**l you can even use the wire as belt for all i care.

  3. no.

  4. If your good with soldering, then Craig B has the best answer.  I took a 50 ft Mogami S-Video cable, cut off both ends and replaced them a 1/4" TRS (Stereo) plug and a 1/8" TRS jack.  It works great.  I've made three others for friends. They love them.

You'll need a steady hand and patience.  Standard S-Video cable is usually 24-26Ga.

You'll need Craig's idea twice.  One at the input source and the other at the TV.

As for the Video, the A/V cable you have will work with RGB Component but usually only the yellow video cable is shielded.  You may get some interference with the Red/White audio lines. But, it will work.

    Good luck!

  5. If you want to run a High Def Signal, component video isn't good enough anyway, so you're going to have to rip the cables out for that. Luckily, the new cable that you need (HDMI) runs the video and the audio. Also, there is no adapter for S-Video to stereo audio RCA. The S-Video cable is not equipped for audio signals like an RCA wire, which is universal (it's a digital signal instead of an analog signal).

  6. If you have a female svideo on the wall, get a standard svideo cable and cut one of the ends off. Then strip down to the individual wires. Then get your 2 rca cables and cut one end off each of those and connect the bare wire to each other. As far as a converter(so you wouldn't have to strip wires) I don't think one exists. You could get 2 svideo to single rca and just do mono audio: http://www.cablesforless.com/browseprodu...

  7. 1. the s-video cable is dedicated for video only. the pins you see are for the the compound wiring within the cable sheath. (it splits luminance and color -- hence the improvement over composite video).

    2. you shouldn't be using composite cables to carry signals to your component video jacks. component video is very high quality, and should be carried by high quality cables. if you use the old cables, you wouldn't get getting the maximum benefit of the component video.

even if you found a way to get the signals the way you're suggesting, the overall system set up would be shoddy at best
