My TV sits 24 feet from the bed and I would like to install 2 low watt speakers in the wall behind the bed. I don't want to use a receiver (one less component!) and would like to use the TV to power them. I still have not bought the TV so I am open to suggestions on what would work. Main goal is to hear the TV, not blast the volume.

  1. Depends on the TV. You just need to check when you buy the TV that it has either direct speaker outputs, or phono audio outputs that could be used to drive a powered set of speakers.

  2. 24 feet is a long distance for viewing a TV.  I hope you are getting a large set.

The other answerer is right, look for a model with speaker outputs or a variable line level outputs.  I have seen a few TV's with speaker outputs but very few with variable audio outs.  It is not an important feature any longer because most people have home theater equipment.
