I have a ADSL Modem with 2 MBPS Internet connection. I have two PCs installed at my place. Whether its possible to share the internet connection directly from ADSL modem without hub ? Even I dont want to establish a LAN structure at my place.

Can I use both the slots of ADSL Modem (first USB and Other LAN Slot) for seperate computers simultaneously ?

Please Help me............

  1. It will not work dependably and this is not the way to do it.

Apparently your ADSL modem has only 1 LAN port, meaning it is a straight modem, not a modem / router / switch combination.

You need, regardless of your preference, a router and a network switch for wired connections.  Many low end household routers integrate a router and switch providing up to 4 LAN ports and such a device would be sufficient.

Others may suggest a wireless router which really is a combination of router, switch, and wireless access point.  You do not need this unless you wish to try the wireless vs wired approach.

Finally, hubs are hardly used anymore.  A network switch is faster, better, more stable, and cost difference between hub and switch were so small that I doubt you can find hubs sold any more.

  2. Yes you can. I have tried it & it works. You can even read write data to both computers connected via usb or ethernet.

  3. i thik you can .

  4. I'd say try it...most modems won't let both USB and eithernet work though.

The better way is to get a cheap router and install that - then you can share the internet connection with both computers (and any future computer you get)

If you get a router that includes wireless, make sure you either encrypt the wireless or disable the wireless (not just SSID) feature.
