Can I run two subwoofers off my stereo with a built-in amp?

Hey guys, I'm getting ready to buy two 10" subwoofers from JL Audio for my ford truck. Here's a link: http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_5161_JL+Audio+10W1v2-4.html

Just wondering if I had to buy an amplifier or if I could just use a stereo with a built-in amp to power them. Say if I were to buy this stereo: http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_11790_Kenwood+KDC-BT838U.html

Would that be enough to power my subs?

Thanks.

  1. I don't think 22 watts is enough to power 300 watt subs.  You would want at least half of the RMS power rating on the subs.

  2. Absolutely not.  Your head unit is producing 22 watts, the 600 watt subs wont work at all on them.

For subs you require an amp.  You need 600watts of power, compare the size of your deck vs an amp there is no way a deck can even stack up.

    I suggest this Kenwood KAC-8104D class d mono amp 500watts at 2 ohms $130

    or

    Alpine MRP-M450 400 watts @ 2ohms $150

    Good Luck

  3. they will play but not loud

you should have at least 100 watts (RMS) in my opinion... that radio will only give them 25 RMS

get 6x9 speakers if you want bass without an amp

  4. you should probably get an amp , less stress on the current system , and in my opinion better sound.
