I have 2 amplifiers (one surround and one stereo) and I was wondering if I could connect my stereo speakers to both amplifiers without breaking one of them, not for using them both at the same time, but for saving me the bother to switch the wires all the time.

  1. RMS means Root Mean Square and the term is not used properly in this answer although he is absolutely correct they both can't be on unless you're playing K.D. Lang. DC (direct current) blows speakers BTW. A switch is a far better idea.

  2. Sure you can.  Just don't over-power them.  Losing speakers is no fun.

  3. yes, just hook up the speaker wire up to the speakers like normal and it should work.  just make sure not to use them both at the same time if their combined RMS is more than that of the speakers because that will cause the speakers to be damaged.

EDIT: srry, i ment it as the continuous RMS wattage rating. my bad
