Question:

Can I sand furniture after it's been primed?

I'm paiting some furniture and I started with primer, but let my children help... It's quick drying primer so as soon as you get one stroke down and try to even it all out, it gets bumpy. I don't want to ruin the furniture, but I don't want a bumpy finish after I paint with high-gloss. Can I sand it to even things out before painting over the primer?

  1. sure  you can ..... really  primer  is very easy to sand ....

lightly sand it .....   and wear a mask  .....

if you hit  the wood ...... just re primer   . useing a light coat

one more though , if your use a  bright   coat. on the top.

use a white primer  on the bottom, it will make your paint jump out much better  ...

  2. yes with 800 grit sand paper

  3. You can always sand off what you put on, just stop when you hit wood.

  4. Certainly you can.  In fact, it is often recommended that you sand the primer lightly to knock down any wood fibers that it may have raised.  Use a fine grit paper.  If you were only knocking down raised fibers I would say 220 grit, but to smooth the bumpy primer you may need 150 grit or so.

  5. you should always sand your primer with a light weight sand paper.
