Question:

Can I select different tire size?

My Mazda 5 comes with 205/50/17 tires.

These tires are pretty rare therefore expensive. You can find more tires in 225/45/17. The diameter is only 0.4% different on these two sizes.

can I go with the 225/45/17 tires?

  1. better check with dealer,  should be able to if there is enough room inside the wheel wells..

  2. The tire store would have the correct answer but I have done similar type tire swaps.

  3. It is not a problem as long as i have gone down is size of the tire. the only problem is going up in size because it causes problem with tire rods and cv boots

  4. Yes you could do that.  The load index is the same too.  But there are plenty of good choices in P205/50R17 89V.

Kuhmo has just come out with the Ecsta LX 60k mile warranty all-season touring tire which looks very promising, plus they have the older Solus KH16 and the sportier and slightly cheaper Ecsta ASX to chose from.

Toyo has the Versado which I've quite a bit of success with on these Mazda's.  Ride and handle very nice and super quiet.

On the cheap end Falken has thier new ZE-912 all-season touring tire.

BF Goodrich has the G-Force Super Sport AS and Goodyear the Eagle F1 AS (much better than the Eagle RS-A you probably have now).

Bridgestone has the Potenza G019 Grid which I like a lot and seems to have overcome its backorder issues.  Michelin has the Pilot Sport AS but for the price I'd pick the Bridgestone.

If you don't care about snow, cold or long wear there are lots of summer high performance options in this size.

That should be enough choices for anyone.

  5. you have two principals going on with this tire change.First225 is a wider tire.45 is tire side wall width making it a lower number also changes tire width, smaller number wider tire. You must make sure that the tire you want to change to will actually fit in the wheelwell or rim offset.I would try a 205/45/17 first,if still to expensive then205/55/17, or chang rim size to smaller like 16 inch.then again you can change rim offset to fit in bigger tires.there are manny possibilitys with car tires, what ever you do you must remember changing from stock tires, rims or offsetsts your changing the car driving charicteristics.

  6. go to tirerack.com   they will list other sizes that fit...and i think they sell tires that size cheap
