Question:

Can I sell a motorcycle in Missouri that I never got titled?

I purchased a motorcycle back in early April and never got around to registering it. I know I can register it and pay taxes and the late fee. However, I have decided I don't really want it and would rather sell it. Is it possible to sell it without having to title it, hence avoiding losing the tax I'd have to pay on it. I have the title from the original owner signed over to me and his lien release.

Thanks, keep in mind this is in Missouri.

  1. What, you want the next guy to pay the taxes and late fees you owe?  Won't happen.  You need to get a clear title in your name before you sell it, which will mean paying the fees for being late to register it, and the taxes due the state.

You should have done that within the first 30 days.  http://dor.mo.gov/mvdl/motorv/buying.htm

And don't forget it needs a current inspection too.

  2. You cannot legally sell it because you don't legally own it
