I have a truck and still owe about $7000 on it but I want to get rid of it because of the high gas prices and get a small car. It is in my dad's name, but I make all the payments on it. Would I be able to sell it or trade it in without getting it put in my name?

  1. yes but it will take your dads signs and pay off

like trading it in or selling it out right (will have to be payed off before the lean holder will release the title) but it is not that hard to sell it

make sure that you will not lose money

  2. Yes, go to the DMV and get a authorization for payoff form.  Have your father sign it and take it with you when you go to trade it in. The form is a LAW form #1000. If selling it private party you have to pay the vehicle off first and have your father sign off on the title.

  3. You can sell the truck and pay off the loan as long as you make the payments. It is very simple so yes you can do that.

  4. No, in order to sell it, the title must be in your name.  However, if you are legally an adult, your dad could give you the title and then you could sell it.  If you are a minor, your dad will have to sell it and then you can work out the financial arrangements with him.

  5. nope unless he wants to come and sign the paper work with you to sell it but other than that he has to be there

  6. i think the only way would be for your dad to make the decision. and thats a smart move
