Can I send moon cakes from China to Canada?

The mid autumn festival is coming in 2 weeks. I am thinking of sending a box of mooncakes back to Canada from Guangzhou.

However, they say that sending mooncake or any type of food isn't allowed to Canada as the custom will not receive it. Is this true?
