Certainly you can put a car (and belongings) in a container.

When I was in the army I was selected to visit the wonderful country of South Korea. I was going to ship my car back to my parents house. It turned out that shipping by truck was cheaper than by train. It might even go truck to start then train for the most part then truck to the final location. I would check into shipping it via motor carrier.
