I know they get in trouble for lots of things being sent to them. I was told to not even send news papers or magazines. Can I send him a prepaid phone card to make calls from the pay phone? Is he allowed or will it be taken and he will get in trouble for it. I am afraid to send anything that will cause him trouble. Has any one been through Airforce BT at lackland to have experience with that base? How often did you get the chance to call home?

  1. I've researched these prepaid debit cards a lot.  There are number of them, all charging a lot of fees with exception to one - Bank Freedom prepaid Mastercard http://www.bankfreedom.com

They have no activation fee (more others have $10) and the card is free of monthly service cost with direct deposit.  It works anywhere Mastercard works.  I have one and no problems.  Hope this helps.

  2. Yes my cousin just graduated basic from there and I bought him one and mailed it so he could call me.

  3. Yes...this is allowed. I sent several to my daughter last year. She was allowed to keep them. About the only time available for telephone calls is Saturday or Sunday evenings, which are classified as "down days". Training is kept to a minimum and some privilledges are granted, especially after the first few weeks of training.

    Good Luck

  4. Ask him.

They won't open his mail.  When he''s allowed to use a public phone he can dial any way he wants.

  5. The answer is yes call Lackland information 210-671-1110 and ask for the number to the reception center they will answer any question you may have.
