Question:

Can I separate myself from a DUI even though my car insurance is held by the DUI'er?

My car has always been insured under my father's name. He had a DUI a year ago, and the insurance costs rocketed. Do my rates rise also, or can I separate myself from the DUI and find my own insurance?

  1. For car insurance the obvious way to get a great rate is do a policy comparison on car policies. Make sure that you choose similar policies with the same deductibles, auto model, location, etc so that all things are an accurate comparison.

What I always recommend is an online comparison quote at http://www.InsureAutoNow.info since they have lots of insurers and can give several quotes on auto insurance polices.

  2. It's his, not yours.  Perhaps your own policy would be cheaper at this point in time.  Find an independent agent and have him search for you.  don't drop your current insurance until the new policy is in place.

A site I've recommended in the past would be...

    Hope that helps.

  3. I think it would depend on your age.  If you are over 18 then yes, and you should!  Good luck...
