Can I shave my cat? he's a long hair

He is a long hair cat and he is losing a lot of hair so I think shaving him will be good.

It's normal for a long haired cat to shed out.  Especially in the summer time.  If the cat won't let you brush it then I would suggest that you try and find a good groomer, your vets office may be able to suggest one, that grooms cats.  Let them do a nice job of trimming or shaving your cats hair.  If you do it yourself your liable to end up with the cat hating you, and a huge mess.

You can but I would suggest taking him to a groomer.  Sometimes though after you shave a long haired cat they do get embarassed and will hide when they get home.

well ummm.......if your cat is losing a lot of hair it might be shedding cause its warming up i wouldnt reacomend shaving it get a cat brush (any brush for cats or digs) that has the teeth of the comb or brish close togther ( i reacomed the brush or comb to be steel) and tht should help by getting some of the hair that its losing off hope that helps and if you have any more qustions about your cat e-mail or IM me thanks

You can, but I would highly recommend having it done by a groomer the first time instead of doing it yourself.  Cats can be a challenge to groom and having a professional do it at first maybe helpful.  Where I used to work, a lot of people would have us shave down their pets, and then they would follow the pattern we started to keep them short.  It's easier.

If your issue is the shedding, shaving your cat won't stop the shedding...he'll just shed sorter hair.  Buy a good, quality slicker brush and a greyhound (metal) comb.  Also, you can buy "furminator" products and those help with shedding a lot.

I wouldn't try to shave the cat!  The cat might freak right out and you'll have a cat that is half shaved and half long fur.  Take it to a groomer and let them deal with getting the cat all nice and fancy!  Good Luck!
