I want to sell some old collectible pocket knives on Ebay. Is it ok to ship knives through the US Postal Service? Are there specific guidelines I need to follow?

  1. You can ship knives via USPS.

USPS is usually not trackable though and there are ways for customers to use this against you.

USPS requires that you wait 90 after the package ships before starting an investigation if the package is MIA.

UPS and Fed Ex are much better with their tracking system and claims system.

  2. To correct some misinformation. If you feel that a package has been lost, you can make an inquiry, online, at usps.com. You can do this 14 days after the date of mailing. Nowhere near 90 days.

I can't imagine where the other person got that 90 day information, but it is incorrect.

Yes, you can send pocket knoves through the mail, not a problem at all. There are some specific rules about packaging things like knives that do not clsoe, and very specific terms for switchblade knives.

You will be just fine with pocket knives.

  3. Yes, you can ship knives via USPS.

Make sure that they are closed and packaged so that no one gets hurt, and the knives don't get lost out of the packaging.
