I am moving to NYC I am driving my car up there as well. Everything I need wont fit in the car so can I ship some of the boxes via greyhound and pick them up when I get to the city? Or would it be cheaper to try another shipping company?

  1. I was once a trucker, and got fired for late deliveries because I couldn't stay awake and run all night.  I had to clean the truck out, and get all my personal belongings out.  I was in Birmingham, Alabama, and needed to travel to Los Angeles with 12 boxes of personal belongings. I paid an excise fee for each additional box beyond their 2-luggage limit.  So the first 2 boxes were free, then each box, I paid extra.  I filled out 12 baggage tags for each box.  Each tag was numbered. When I got to LA, the clerk asked for all my tags, yet he only gave me 10 boxes.  2 boxes were missing. When I asked for the tags back, so I can figure out which tag to file a claim on, the clerk refused, and threatened to call police if I don't leave with my 10 boxes.

The lesson learned here, when you arrive at your destination, DO NOT GIVE YOUR BAGGAGE TAGS.  Write the baggage numbers on a separate sheet, then let the baggage clerk use that sheet to find your baggage.  Hand over your baggage claim ticket, only after he had produced the baggage (or box) for each ticket.

The baggage clerks are under instruction to minimize loss baggage claims by taking your baggage tags ahead of time.  If the clerk refuses to get your baggage (or box) without you handing over all the tickets, its because at least one baggage was stolen already.

Watch your carry-on belongings. Pickpockets & thieves always travel by Greyhound, because its the cheapest way to travel.  Carry bottled water and dry snacks (granola bars, crackers w/ cheese or peanut butter,  small can of vienna sausage, liverwurst, or tuna, and some bread), and never leave them behind.  I carried a small bag of food & snacks, kept it on the overhead luggage stow-away hold. We stopped at a bus terminal,  and I got out to stretch my legs. When I got back into the bus, I immediately went to get my bag of food and snacks, and realized someone stole my bag while I had gotten out to stretch my legs

  2. I think it would be far SAFER to ship them with someone else...Greyhound can't even hang onto a suitcase checked on a bus with the passenger on the same bus, on a direct route from one city to another!  I would not trust them not to lose the boxes.

  3. It would prob. be cheaper to try shipping them to another company. good luck
