Question:

Can I sign for mail that isn't addressed to me?

All right, my mom has a P.O. Box and we had 2 boxes sent priority mail on Saturday. We think they should be here tomorrow. Anyway, one of the boxes had insurance on it and may require a signature but the box is addressed to my mom but she wants me to go pick up the boxes because it would be way more convenient.

So my question is when I go to pick up the box will they not let me get it since it is addressed to my mom? Can I pick up the box and just sign my own name? I have gotten a box before and signed but I'm not sure if that was the same thing.

Thanks.

  1. You can't sign if it requires her signature, specifically.

But if you have any doubts, call the post office and ask them yourself.

  2. I think you should be able to sign for them, mostly the signature is just to confirm that the package was indeed delivered to the proper address. Since you share the same address, there's no way anybody else would have access to the package card for them that will be in your PO box. I think it should be fine.
