Question:

Can I sister joint the rotted stringers ???

I just bought a 18 foot tri hull i know nothing about boats..frist can i use the same foam i took out..2nd can i just cut 2 pieces of wood and s***w them together meaning the rotted stringers would be between the two new pieces of wood i just cut?

  2. no you CANT re-use the foam from the rotted stringers,,,once foam has been wet it is of no use,,,call and ask the foam reps they'll tell ya,,,and NO ya cant sister ya stringers,,,,well you can,,but only someone that doesnt care would,,,them rotting stringers will only cause you WAY more problems in the SHORT future,,and there is a MILLION reasons why not to do it,,,,,go here and ask these guys,,,they'll tell ya and explaine things in depth,,( http://www.boatdesign.net/forums/showthr...

  3. Yes, you can use the same foam blocks, on the stringers, how many are rotten? I have sistered stringers before with pretty good luck as long as you don't have to do the whole boat. Make sure you use the right kind of wood. Don't use oak, because if you have to use fiberglass on them, fiberglass will not adhear to oak. Check with a boat yard to see what kind of wood your stringers are made of. Good luck, you have a lot of work ahead of you.

    There are a few people here who know what they are doing and a picture would clarify things greatly.
