Can I somehow connect a computer to an a/v receiver via a composite or digital audio cable?

My receiver doesn't have a USB connection, and I want to play music from my computer through my surround sound speakers, which are all connected to the receiver. Receiver has both composite and digital audio input jacks. Any advice? Thank you.

Yes you can follow the above or you can also upgrade your sound card to one with a digital output or 5.1 - 7.1 outputs and use that instead.

As long as you have some sort of audio output you can connect it to an external stereo system.

If I were doing it I would opt for the new sound card with digital output

If you have a wireless network then this does the trick.  I use it to transfer all the music from my PC to my sound system outside by the pool.  It's only like $100 and you can browse your tunes, create playlists, etc

Yes you can connect the computer using a mini- stereo plug splitter on the PCs audio output connected to your receiver's audio input- the red and white RCA connectors.
