I'm 14 years old and have always had a passion for gymnastics from about the age of 10, but i never pursued it. Now I've been watching the Olympics and am increasing feeling broody about not being able to do what they do. I was wondering it it's definitely to late to start gymnastics, I don't want to do it professionally but I really want to just enter minor competitions and become much more fitter. I'm not very flexible at all, and although I practise the basic gymnastic moves I'm still quite bad. So does anyone know where I can get help and practise in London, in the south?

  1. Yes course u can, people can start gymnastics at any age!!  As long as you work hard at it u will probs get up to competition standard!!

Good luck and hope u enjoy it

  2. yes you can, though you'll never  be competition standard- you cant compete aginst ppl who've been doing it since age 3, especially if youre not flexible to start with.

  3. I completely understand why you are discouraged NOT to start gymnastics. I felt the same way about starting a more difficult tennis class. At first I was not as good as my peers, infected I sucked. Even though I was not as good as everyone else I stuck it out.   I am done with the lessons and feel like I have accomplished something by just taking the classes and not giving up. The truth is if you truly have a passion to become a gymnast you should start gymnastics. You may feel self conscious and stupid because you may see peers or  kids younger than you who are better then you, but with time you will get better too. If you decide to start gymnastics or any other sport, don’t give up because you think you are too old. You are never too old to start something new if you are truly interested in doing it.

  4. I don't know where you can go to do gymnastics but start strecting to get better flexibility!

I can't do diddly I can do a cartwheel but can't touch my toes I'm 5'8 I've never really had a  passion for gymnastics but its so fun to watch !!

  5. No, you aren't too young for novice gymnastics, nobody is, as long as you understand you are past the point of serious competition. You should get into yoga as well as this will greatly help your flexibility. As far as a local group goes, depends on your London postcode, check with your nearest leisure centre. You are guaranteed to be living less than 15mins from your nearest gym class. good luck and well done for finally following something you want to do!!!

  6. if your fit, and think that u could do it! GO FOR IT. its never too late to persue a dream, my dad dreamed of playing in the nfl football, he got caled at the age of 40. so u can do anything if u set your heart to it

  7. i started gymnastics when i was 3 and i was going to  the 1980's Olympics for England but due to me damaging my knee four weeks before i couldn't go.you can start at any time,go for it you'll really enjoy it and the work out will make you much healter

  8. Yes you can start.. alot of adults pick it up. so i dont see why not! go for it! you'll get alot better with practice. sorry I dont live in south london but your bound to find it in  the yellow pages or search online. I warn you though gymnastics it quite expensive and is alot of hard work. but once you get into it its uch a passion and so amazing you'll love it.

  9. yup, you can start at 25 even. i was in gymnastics since i was 2, and i always saw older girls begginers, no sport is ever to late to learn.

so you go and do it ! its really fun too !

    (:

  10. Its never too late - but be prepared to be amazed at how good the little kids are. Just don't expect to be good enough for the Olympics as most of the olympic hopeful kids have their "core skills" (bars giants, vaulting, flicks & basic tumbles, beam acro moves) by the time they are 10 & then they spend their time perfecting and creating more moves for the international stage. But enjoy what you can do..... don't dwell on what you cant & enjoy getting fitter & the feeling of doing something for yourself. There are loads of clubs in london - check out the links on the Britsh gymnastics home page to all registered clubs in the uk.

  11. oh definatly.. dont they have it at your school?

  12. Sure. It's never too late to start anything... Usually. But 14 is fine for starting Gymnastics. My sister started when she was 15 and she enters a lot of minor tournaments, and even competed in the state competition. As for where to practice, I don't know for sure. But I'd ask your parents to look and ask around.
