  1. Most teachers of music ask you start on acoustic guitar to learn the basics and then move on to an electric one.

For one thing acoustics are not as expensive you can get one for a few bucks in the want ads and then if you feel you don't like it you just didn't spend a huge amount of money on electric guitar and of course you have to buy an amp too.

  2. Well, I personally started out on electric first, but not knowing how to play guitar, I sucked on it and decided to try acoustic. In my opinion my fingers built up much more strength on acoustic and playing electric was much easier. However, it is not required that you start on either one. I would just do what you want to do, because then you'll do best. Also, if you want your lessons in electric, I'm pretty sure you will need an electric, just pick up a cheap one though as you start out and if you improve get a better one!

  3. In my opinon acoustic guitars are better to start out with as a beginner as it tends to sound better when trying to learn the chords... so dont get an electric right away... trust me this is a good idea.

  4. electric guitars are easier to play because the string tension is much less and the the string gauge is also smaller.

there is no reason to start with an acoustic guitar befoe you change to electric.

start as you mean to go on.

basically, if you spent 6 months learning to play an acoustic guiatar you would then have to take time after that to get used to an an electric guitar.

i have taught many complete beginner students on an electric guitar.

i suggest you buy a cheap one to begin with and see how you get on.
