I told my previous employer to post my P60 (or P45, not sure which one he has at the moment) to my home address as I havent got time to pop in myself picking it up, however, the slip has been posted for a few weeks and I havent received it yet. A bit worried it got lost during the post!! Can i still apply for a tax refund without a P60? How? many thanks for your answer!

  1. You can ask your employer for a Statement of Earnings in its place, and send that to your HMRC office. You will have a P60 if you were still in the employment at 5 April. If you left before then, you will get a P45. Either way, a Statement of earnings can be given.

  2. if you are due a refund just write to them, while you're at it you could ask for a check for the last 6/7 years (they can only go back a set number of years) - you might be due something

  3. yes, you can. Just write a letter to your tax office saying you believe you have a refund to come for the year 07-08 and that you have lost your P60.

  4. You can apply for refund, problem is likely to be that details from employer's return unlikely to have filtered through to your record as yet, so tax office won't have information.

Employer can issue duplicate if clearly marked "duplicate", or tax office will accept pay/tax details in a signed letter on headed notepaper from employer.
