Can I still be a doctor even though...?

Question

I want to be a pediatrician, but I'm not that smart.

I've got a 3.7 GPA, i'm a junior in high school, I take hard courses like AP and Honors, but I'm terrible at math.

I'm in Regular Calculus AB, but last year I ended up with a B- average.

And my parents are worried that I might not even make it to medical school. So, I'm starting to worry.

You have a great GPA... Im not really sure why your parents are wooried.  They/you dont need to be.  Just keep working hard.  Finish High School Strong, and do the same in college.  you'll be fine

I would advise you to continue to apply yourself, it's a little early in the game to throw in the towel.

My husband is the dean of admissions at a dental school, and from what he says a number of things come into consideration when someone is accepted into professional school - grades, extracurricular activities, volunteer work, job shadowing of various dentists (in your case, physicians), as well as the entrance exams taken towards the end of college.

So, if you are serious about this, just keep working.  Be sure to seek an undergraduate degree in college that will be marketable whether or not you ever get into medical school.  Good luck!!

It sounds like you are highly intelligent to me.  With your work load and grade point average, you should be able to get into a pre-med program at a decent university.  If you apply yourself, you can become a pediatrician.  Of course, if that does not work out for any reason or if you decide to take another path... you can go into physician's assistant program or pediatric nursing and still make a decent living with less of a worry of lawsuits.

Well you have four years of college before you get to medical school so who knows, things may change, too early to tell right now.
