I am a super thin woman. I wonder whether I can still conceive.

Do I need to take in more iron or folic acid?

I am 30+ years old. I suspect I am abit anaemic at the same time.

I am worried that I can't conceive or may suffer from miscarriage if I get pregnant.

  1. if 90lb Nicole Ritchie could deliver a healthy baby, so can you!

  2. Many research studies have shown that women who are underweight or extremely thin have a higher chance of having a miscarriage.  Generally, if you have a family history of miscarriages, then chances are that may also have one as well.  However, I believe that if you really want to have a child you should never let that stop you from at least trying.  Talk to your doctor and he/she can help you do what is necessary to conceive.  There are many hormones and things you can do to get your weight up and also prevent miscarriages.  Good luck!

  3. The best I can say is you can try.  I had a BMI of 17.7 and could not conceive.  The doctors made me gain weight, then found out that was not my problem, but won't treat me unless I maintain upwards of 18.5 because of the presumed risk.  I think it's a load if that's just how your body is, though.  If you are starving yourself down to it, then you have a problem and probably won't be able to coneive because you lack nutrients.  You can go over your diet and everything like that at your pre-conception check up.  Everyone needs to take vitamins like iron and folic acid while they are trying to conceive.  If you have a sensitive digestibve system, I recommend Nutrabella Belly Bars.  I get constipated from regular iron and calcium, but those don't bother me.  If you choose to try on your own, since you are over 30 (and especially if you are over 35), give it 6 months and be sure to start charting now and using some kind of ovulation prediction, preferably a fertility monitor that checks both estrogen and lutenizing hormone.  If you notice you are not ovulating, go immediately to the doctor.  If you have s*x while you are fertile for 6 months and still are not pregnant, go to the doctor.  Make sure you eat a healthy, balanced diet.  Hopefully, if you have to go to the doctor, they don't make a big thing of your weight like they did with mine.  If you need to learn how to chart, check out my source.

  4. If you have a period, you can conceive. With your anemia I'd guess you'd have to eat more iron-rich foods, but the prenatal vitamin you'll be taking should help. So long as you eat healthy I think you and your baby would be just fine.

  5. Well, I think you can..........everybody's body is different it all depends on how ur body responds.  And anyways most people put on weight after that.  Plus there is also other ways to keep your pregnancy in strength.  You should maybe take some vitamins before pregnancy.  I think that would also help too.  Ask your doctor for more advice.

  6. You may need to gain a little weight, but you should still be able to conceive.

I know a girl who was skinny, and was told she couldn't have children, needless to say, she has a baby now, so it can happen.

  7. you can still conceive but i suppose it would probably be harder for you.

if you want to conceive then its best if you do put a bit of weight on.

also it depends on HOW thin you are

  8. You should be fine, I don't consider myself super thin, I am 115 at 5'7 but I was even smaller before I got pregnant with my two kids I have now, and it wasn't an issue at all.

  9. I am very thin and I had a healthy 9lb boy, so you will be fine.
