Question:

Can I still drive my car before going to court?

I was pulled over today for a broken tail light and ended up with a ticket for an expired driver's license (1 month expired- I simply forgot about it). I am going to the dmv tomorrow to renew- can I drive my car again once I've renewed my license or do I have to wait until my court date?

Thanks.

  1. I agree with Aymee, but I would add the answer to the other part of your question is YES, you can drive once you get your license renewed, you don't have to wait until your court date.  Also, make sure that your ticket really IS a compliance ticket (that's what Aymee describes).  Some jurisdictions will actually require a court appearance and you would have to show your proof at your court appearance that you fixed everything.

  2. Get your license renewed and the taillight fixed and get it signed off by the police and take it with you if you go to court...most cases you don't have to go to court..just take it to the court clerks offices with the proof of fixing the problems and you most likely will pay a small administration fee.
