Can I still get hired as a firefighter even though I was fired from my first job for going to work drunk?

I was 19 when I got fired from my first job for going to work drunk. Now I am 22 years old and I was wondering if getting fired from my first job will effect me getting hired as a firefighter.

  1. Having an arrest for drunk driving can affect your hire ability.  If you are using someone from your first job as a reference (bad idea), your ability for hiring could be affected.  If you have had other jobs between now and then with no problem then list it on your resume but don't draw attention to it.  If someone asks about it during an interview, explain to them that you have had three years to grow up and you no longer do such things.

  2. Well if they check your reference, they probably won't.  I would suggest not offering that information.  If it was kinda of a nothing job, just leave it off.  Hopefully no charges were involved in this firing, if there were then this would hurt you, but if they just let you go - don't worry about it. Hopefully you have other work experiences or have been in school to explain what you were doing before this.  I don't know if they give you a poloy test like the police, if they do you could run into problems, if not your good to go.
