Can I still make it into a University without taking the SAT or ACT?

So I currently attend McNally Smith College of Music in Saint Paul Minnesota and I am interested in going to another college outside of the state. My only concern is that the high school I attended was brand new and hadn't yet established a system for SAT and ACT so I never got to take them. I've been in college for a year now and I have a 3.8 GPA and I'd like to attend a University, will I be able to go?

  1. Since you were able to get into your current college without SAT scores another university may be sympathetic. Why not call and ask?  Narrow down your search to your top 3 choices and give them a call or make time to go visit and speak to admissions personally. It can't hurt, right,  and you may get the answer you're looking for.

    Good luck!

  2. since the school you currently attend is a music school, they probably didn't care about academics like math and science.  unless you are transferring to another arts or music school, i would definitely think you would be required to produce an SAT score.  it is required for admission to like 90% of traditional colleges and universities.

As the others have already stated, call the admissions dept. of the schools you are looking at or check out their website.  they will even tell you what you would need to score to  be accepted!

  3. It depends upon the school you wish to attend.  Most four year universities in the USA now require one or the other, but not all.  Furthermore, some schools only require the test scores from students entering as freshman, but not from transfer students.  Especially with your excellent GPA, the school may not require an ACT or SAT score, because you have already proven yourself to be capable of performing college-level work.  My suggestion would be to decide which schools interest you, and send an e-mail to the Admissions Office of each inquiring whether the scores are required.  Be sure to save the reply you receive, just in case.  Best of luck to you.

  4. All colleges require SAT or ACT scores as part of their pre-requisites for application.

  5. The University of Rochester may be a good choice. They don't require SAT's, they have an excellent music school (Eastman School of Music), and it's really cold and snowy, so if you like Minnesota's weather you'll love Rochester in February!
