Can I still start tennis if I'm already 13?

I'm starting tennis in a couple weeks and I'm not sure if I'll be any good. I just turned 13 about a month ago and was wondering if I still had a good chance of catching up with the other players even though I'm just starting to learn.?

  1. Of Course u can start at that age! I started at the age of 14 just coming to highschool, and now im ranked NO. 3 Varsity. Personally i hated tennis at the beggining, but then i just tried it out and it was really fun. If u find that u love tennis u will play alot and learn through experience

  2. h**l yeah! im 15 and i just started seriously last year, n im getting close to some of the better kids my age. Hard work, dedication, and a good work ethic are all you need to become great. My recommendation is that you play as much as you can with people who are better than you, it'll help you more than you know. And of course, take lessons, hit against walls,  improve your footwork and such. Of course, if you're looking to go pro, its still very much possible, but dont expect to be able to not work that hard. You gotta play like 4+ times a week if you want to get to that level. Remember, theres no substitution for hard work. Good luck with achieving your goal!

  3. nope!

i'm almost 16 but i started last summer.

and i've gotten pretty good. i was on my my high school frosh tennis team but i'm gonna be on jv this coming school year.

and if you practice daily and play with people who are good and you'll become decent or even better!

good luck, and if i can do it at 15, so can you at 13.

  4. of course you can still start!!! you may never make it to a grand slam or anything, but tennis is all about having fun! i wouldn't worry about catching up, just go out, try your best, and have fun. you don't need to be exceptional to do that.

  5. No but do you have to be awsome at it?  Can't you just go and have some fun??

  6. Yes. I started playing when I was 12. By the time I was 13 I already had a 6.0 NTRP rating and had several offers for sponsorship.

  7. Of course!

I started playing tennis my freshman year, and by my senior year I was ranked #2 in our district(8th in the state), if you have athletic ability will make it a whole lot easier, if not you need endurance and form.

Dedicate yourself, tennis is sooo much fun!

  8. try your hardest everones different you may have a gift or might have to practise twice as hard to catch up with them

  9. the guy above me is right and most of all what you need is the will power ... I started playing tennis 8 months ago and I am 13 .... now I am 14 and I am 4.5 (college level) player ... all because of hard work and will power

  10. If you are talking about joining your high school varsity tennis team I dont think you will make it unless they suck. 13 is not a bad age to start tennis....i started at 10 and each year you improve when you play people with a higher skill than you
